Ringer Revealed... Ringer is oft-described as "soapy" but 'What Are You Doing Here, Ho-Bag?' (the show's greatest episode title since 'Oh Gawd, There's Two of Them?') is the first episode to really merit the description. That's chiefly thanks to a flying visit from Andrew's ex-wife and Juliet's mother, Catherine.
From the moment she's first glimpsed, sipping a glass of red wine while soaking in a bubble bath, Catherine - played by Rescue Me star Andrea Roth - is great fun. She's a ridiculous cliché of a character - a soap opera uber-bitch who spouts lines like, "I'm having a funeral for my daughter - the slut!" - but she's certainly entertaining.
Catherine's arrival also gives Sarah Michelle Gellar more to do than the usual sneaking-around-while-looking-concerned - the former All My Children star taps into her soap roots for a hilarious showdown with her husband's ex - "Juliet's biggest problem in life is suffering through with your pathetic DNA!" spits Bridget.
It's a shame that the boozy, absurd Catherine is sent packing by Andrew (Ioan Gruffudd) with a final "You can suck it!" - as far as this writer's concerned, she's welcome back to stay anytime.
There's relatively little progression on the Bridget / Siobhan front this week, at least until the episode's final moments. Siobhan is still deeply, bafflingly in love with the bland Henry (Kristoffer Polaha) but he's becoming increasingly frustrated with her games, finally yelping, "I don't understand what is going on!"
His questions are answered at the episode's conclusion, as Henry becomes the first major character - barring the late Gemma - to discover the truth about Bridget and Siobhan's identity swap.
Oh, and he also learns that the real Siobhan is still pregnant with his child. For once, the gormless look on Henry's face is justified. It's a smart move, at this first season's half-way point, to start moving the story forward - we're intrigued to see what Henry will do with this new information...
One character who's drastically lacking in new information is Machado (Nestor Carbonell). At one point this week, he draws up bullet points on a notepad, compiling the information he's uncovered so far, and it's telling that he only manages about five sentences.
Even traitorous agent Jimmy (Darren Pettie) sticks the knife in when Machado visits him in prison, speaking for the viewer as he taunts, "You're no closer to Bodaway Macawi than you were six months ago - it's pathetic."
A story arc that does thankfully move on is the Juliet rape plot. There's still no denying that this is filler of the worst kind, but at least we get an intriguing twist this week, as Juliet's school bully Tessa turns up at the apartment, claiming that she too was assaulted by 'Mr C' - it now appears that Carpenter may in fact be guilty or at the very least that there's more to the case than meets the eye...
Overall, this week's Ringer is a return to form after the somewhat mundane mid-season premiere. 'What Are You Doing Here, Ho-Bag?' is pleasingly silly with plenty of twists - see Henry and Machado both becoming briefly convinced that the real Siobhan is actually her twin - and a game-changing final twist.
Andrew Highlight of the Week... So much to choose from this week! There's a fun moment where Gruffudd's wooden businessman repeats information that he already knows for the audience's benefit - "What do you mean building a case against Carpenter's going to be a lot harder than we thought?!"
But his clash with Catherine is the doubted highlight. "Every time you two get together, it's combustible!" he yells at Bridget and Catherine, and a few scenes later, he tosses his sozzled ex-wife out, throwing money at her for a hotel and yelling, "I don't care if you've got a brain tumour - I want you out!"
