Both Bowen and Vergara were nominated for the 'Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series' at the Primetime Emmy 2012 on Sunday (September 23), but it was Bowen who took home the award.
"She doesn't get the credit she deserves as an actress," Bowen told reporters after the ceremony. "She is talented and amazing, and there are only a few of us that realise that she just doesn't play herself... She deserves one of these [Emmys] too."
Meanwhile, Eric Stonestreet also won the 'Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series' award for Modern Family. The actor beat contenders including co-stars Ed O'Neill, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Ty Burrell, who won the award in 2011.
Burrell told the reporters that there is no competition among the ABC show's cast, which also includes Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould and Rico Rodriguez.
"We love each other, absolutely, 100%," he said. "Maybe that won't always be the case, but there's no competition between any of us."
UK viewers will be able to watch highlights from the Primetime Emmys on Monday, September 24 at 10pm on 5USA.
