The actor - who plays lawyer Saul Goodman - told Collider that it was important for the final episodes to increase the drama.
"The stakes escalate [this season]," Odenkirk said, adding humorously: "Somebody asked me what happens this year and I [joked,] 'Walt quits and goes back to teaching high school'."
He continued: "The stakes have to go up and they do by bringing in an international market. There have been moments in the show where you think Walt could quit and go back and do whatever - but he doesn't.
"So it's all a question of who Walt is inside and what choice he's going to make."
Bryan Cranston previously called the Walter White character a "role of [a] lifetime".
"I doubt that I will tackle a character this complex and profound ever again. I'll miss the family that we've created," Cranston said of the final season.
Breaking Bad airs Sundays at 10/9c on AMC.
