The HBO drama was brought back for a third season earlier this year, and co-creator David Simon said the broadcaster is likely to pick up a fourth.
Simon told the New Orleans Times-Picayune that he and the show's other producers have pitched an end-date plan to HBO and are expecting to meet with network executives about a final decision soon.
The series follows an ensemble cast of characters dealing with the post-storm recovery of New Orleans.
The show's third season sees Gossip Girl star Sam Robards and True Blood actor Chris Coy join the main cast.
The third season of Treme is expected to air in spring 2012.
