The actress told TV Line that her role as Alicia Florrick still has "so many colours" left to explore.
Margulies said: "What I think is slowly happening is we're all making strides, and we also have the support of our network to be the show we are, rather than conform to what they think we should be. That gives us confidence to do things that have never been done before."
She continued: "[Alicia will] have a tilted halo, and I think she'll open herself up to other experiences because of it."
Margulies also defended Alicia's decision to cheat on her womanising husband Peter (Chris Noth) with Will (Josh Charles) in the second season finale.
"Her world has been turned upside-down and she packed [Peter] up and shipped him out," she said. "Wouldn't you be happy for her to get a little something?
"I don't know if I'm 'pro' her being with Will [permanently], but I'm 'pro' her being with Will for the last episode, for sure."
It was recently confirmed that former House star Lisa Edelstein will appear in the third season of The Good Wife in a major recurring role.
The Good Wife will begin its third season in a new Sunday night slot on CBS in the fall.
