Alan Cumming has promised that more of Eli's personal life will be revealed in future episodes of The Good Wife.

Cumming told E! Online that more information about Eli first began to appear in the second season.

"At the end of the last season I had that little romance with America Ferrera's character [Natalie Flores]," he explained.

"[Eli] has an ex-wife, he has a daughter, all these things suddenly started coming - children coming out of the woodwork."

Cumming continued: "In this season [we] are going to find out more stuff about his personal life as well as his driven political life. That's exciting for me. And also about his religion."

Cumming added that he is hoping Eli's musical side will emerge in the new season.

"The very first episode I did when I was just a guest star, they mentioned I was a concert pianist," he said. "So I'm like, 'Come on, let's do it!' He was a concert pianist in his past! I think that's hilarious."

Cumming has previously hinted that Eli will cause "inter-office conflict" when he starts working at Lockhart Gardner, while the show's executive producer Robert King has teased that Eli and Kalinda will form a bond.

The new season of The Good Wife will premiere on September 25 on CBS.
