The former Lost star plays enigmatic billionaire Mr Finch in the new CBS drama, which also stars Jim Caviezel.
Emerson told TV Guide: "I thought originally that this is a reclusive character. But he is a far bolder and more active character [than I expected]."
Emerson also claimed that Finch will be challenged by his new partnership with Reese (Caviezel).
"Reese has challenged Finch's wall of impenetrability so that Finch now has to be a little more guarded," explained the actor. "He has to scramble a little harder to stay a step ahead of Reese."
Emerson recently suggested that Person of Interest resembles a superhero drama.
"[Jim and I] both have really strong looks," he said. "Both of us could be drawn easily. There's a stylisation to the look of us that reminds me of Batman and Dick Tracy and stuff like that."
