The Killing star Joel Kinnaman has admitted that he was shocked by the identity of Rosie Larsen's murderer.

The culprit will be revealed in the final episode of the AMC drama's first season, which airs this Sunday at 9pm.

Kinnaman told Xfinity: "They kept it a secret from us right until the end. I found out when I was reading the final script. But it was lots of fun that way. I'm playing a detective, so I liked not knowing the killer's identity as I'm investigating the case."

Kinnaman, who plays Stephen Holder, added that his fellow cast members were also "pretty shocked" by the revelation.

"There was a lot of discussion afterward, and a lot of jaws dropped," he revealed. "The person who plays the killer was really surprised too, I think."

The actor also admitted that he has lied to family and friends about the killer's true identity.

"I have given people the wrong information," he said. "I'm sure they'll all love me when they find out I lied. I'll be getting a lot of angry calls [on] Sunday night."

The Killing was officially renewed for a second 13-part run earlier this week, with the majority of the main cast expected to return. The first season will air on Channel 4 in the UK in July.
