'The Killing' to return for third season in May, 2013?

A third season of The Killing will reportedly launch on AMC in May 2013.

The axed crime drama will resume production "in a few months", according to Variety.

It was first reported last month that cable network AMC was in talks to team with Netflix on a revival of the cancelled series.

Showrunner Veena Sud has now apparently returned to the writers' room to break a third season, alongside exec producers Dawn Prestwich and Nicole Yorkin.

The Killing - based on Danish series Forbrydelsen and starring Mireille Enos as detective Sarah Linden - was originally axed by AMC in July.

Series star Joel Kinnaman - who will next be seen in the RoboCop remake - previously suggested that The Killing would "reboot itself" if it was renewed for a third season.
