The crime drama was axed by AMC in July, but will return for a new run in 2013 as part of a co-production deal between the cable network and Netflix.
However, Billy Campbell - who played Seattle city councilman Darren Richmond - will not return to the series, Variety reports.
Brent Sexton and Michelle Forbes, who played the grieving parents of murder victim Rosie Larsen, have also been dropped from The Killing's third season.
Series leads Mireille Enos (World War Z) and Joel Kinnaman (Robocop) are both expected to reprise their respective roles as detectives Sarah Linden and Stephen Holder.
Showrunner Veena Sud has apparently returned to the writers' room to break the third season, alongside exec producers Dawn Prestwich and Nicole Yorkin.
The Killing is expected to return to US screens in May 2013. It is currently unclear if Channel 4 - the show's original UK broadcaster - will air the new episodes.
