Speaking to TV Guide, the show's executive producer revealed that Damon had approached him with the idea of raising awareness for his children's charity One By One.
"It wasn't hard to get him. Matt came on the phone with me and wanted to do something that focused on his charity," said Doug Ellin, adding that Damon would share a scene with basketball star LeBron James.
Kevin Connolly, who plays Eric in the HBO show, described the Ocean's Eleven star as "amazing", saying: "Doug wrote a scene where we're all at the airport together. Matt was all smiles. He was definitely there to have fun."
Co-star Adrien Grenier (Vince) added: "The joke is that Matt is very passionate about his charity - almost in a stalkerish kind of way. Vince becomes intimated by his intensity. He ends up bullying Vince into giving much more than he should."
Damon's episode is scheduled to air on October 4 in the US.
