Entourage's executive producer Doug Ellin has revealed that he asked former congressman Anthony Weiner to guest star on the show.

Weiner resigned on Tuesday after it emerged that he had posted sexually explicit images of himself on Twitter.

Ellin has now told The Hollywood Reporter that he approached Weiner about a cameo before his resignation.

However, when asked what response he had received, Ellin said: "Nothing."

Ellin also previously approached Charlie Sheen about an Entourage role but has since admitted that it will not be happening.

Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira, Alice Eve, Andrew Dice Clay, Johnny Galecki and Christian Slater are among the stars who have signed up to appear in the final season of Entourage.

Following the scandal involving Weiner, 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin revealed that he is thinking of running for New York City mayor but also admitted that he feels "sad" for Weiner and his family.
