Dermot Mulroney wins role on Zooey Deschanel's 'New Girl'

Dermot Mulroney has signed up for a guest role on Zooey Deschanel's New Girl.

The J. Edgar star will play a love interest for Deschanel's Jess, according to TVLine.

Handsome and wealthy, his character is the father of one of Jess's students and will romance the quirky teacher after an awkward first encounter.

Mulroney is best known for his roles in such films as 1988's Young Guns, 1997's My Best Friend's Wedding and 2002's About Schmidt.

His television credits include a guest stint on Friends and the lead role in NBC's aborted remake of The Rockford Files.

He will appear in multiple episodes of New Girl beginning in March or April.

Mean Girls star Lizzy Caplan and True Blood's Ryan Kwanten have also filmed roles on the show.

New Girl returns to Fox on Tuesday, January 17 at 9/8c. The series also airs on Channel 4 in the UK, on Fridays at 8.30pm.
