Revenge creator Mike Kelley has hinted that it may be difficult to follow up the show's first season.

Kelley told Vulture that the most difficult thing to pull off on a TV drama is "the post-cliffhanger" episode.

"Coming up with a good season ender is no walk in the park," he admitted. "But paying it off so that the viewer is satisfied enough to follow you down the next year of rabbit holes is a true high-wire act."

In the ABC drama's first season finale, Emily (Emily VanCamp) discovered that her presumed dead mother was still alive, while Charlotte (Christa B. Allen) took an overdose and Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) appeared to perish in a plane crash.

Stowe recently revealed that she convinced showrunner Kelley to change Victoria's ultimate fate.

"I talked the creator [Mike] into putting me on that plane," she claimed. "Originally he wanted [just] the implication that I died on the plane... and I was like no, you have to have the whole thing - put me on that plane! [It was] the creatively strong choice to make."

Revenge has been picked up for a second season, which will debut on ABC this fall. In the UK, the series airs on E4.
