'Homeland' Damian Lewis: 'I get lost in Brody's accent'

By
Damian Lewis has joked that he has trouble dropping the American accent he uses in Homeland.

The British actor joked to GQ that playing American soldier-turned-traitor Nicholas Brody on the Showtime series has odd effects on his real-life speech pattern.

"At this point, I don't know what accent will come out when I order coffee in the morning," Lewis joked.

He went on to quip that the brooding he does while playing the conflicted Brody often makes him appear more intense than in reality.

"I know it looks like I'm thinking deep thoughts on the show, but I'm probably just trying to remember my next line," he teased.

Lewis added: "[Brody is] a lot of fun to play because he behaves badly in extremis."

The actor recently signed a new five-year deal to play Brody for seven seasons total on Homeland.

Homeland airs on Showtime in the US and Channel 4 in the UK.
