Damian Lewis on 'Homeland' future: 'Brody could die'

By
Damian Lewis has admitted that he wouldn't be surprised if his Homeland character Nicholas Brody was killed off.

The actor told Entertainment Weekly that the Homeland writing team's willingness to take risks keeps the show "exciting" for its cast.

"Part of the talent of this writing room is that they're not afraid to kill the sacred cow," he suggested. "They're prepared to be bold in their storytelling. Who knows if they've got any more story up their sleeves but it's been a thrilling ride!"

Lewis also acknowledged that there were concerns among the Homeland cast and crew about "not being able to top" the Emmy-winning first season.

"I know the writers were concerned," he said. "But people have really seemed to enjoy season two and that's even with some of that ambiguity potentially having evaporated in that relationship between Carrie [Claire Danes] and Brody."

Homeland was picked up for a third season by Showtime in October, with the cable network's president of entertainment David Nevins claiming that the show's appeal stems from its unusual "rhythm".

"I think [the writers have] shown a willingness to make big story moves from the very beginning," Nevins said. "They've avoided the long tease that I think the audience has sort of come to expect."

Homeland airs on Showtime in the US and on Channel 4 in the UK.
