SAG Awards: Claire Danes 'indebted' to 'Homeland' team

By
Claire Danes paid tribute to her Homeland "buddies" at last night's SAG Awards.

The actress, who beat Jessica Lange, Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery and Julianna Margulies to take home the prize for 'Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series', kissed co-star Damian Lewis before taking to the stage.

"That's very cool," Danes said. "This is amazing - thank you. Thank you very much.

"As a brand spanking new mum, I keep finding myself referring to the cliché of, 'It takes a village to raise a child', and the same is very much true of making a television series. It means everything to be here with my buddies, my cast, my brilliant cast."

Danes continued: "I am the recipient of this incredible collaboration, and the success of my performance is hugely defined by that of those I work with, mainly Damian - the dark or light side of my moon, depending on how you look at it."

Danes went on to thank her other co-stars, even those she does not work with as much, saying: "We are so very connected. Morena [Baccarin], for example, runs my lines with me almost every night while making dinner for me, so I'm just so indebted to them."

Danes - who remembered to thank her husband Hugh Dancy and newborn son Cyrus at the end of her speech - also joked that she had been warned that Carrie in Homeland would be a weighty role.

"I remember my agent when we were talking about potentially taking this role on, she said, 'Well, you know, you'll have a lot to do', which is kind of the understatement of my career," she joked.

Lewis was also nominated for a SAG Award for his role in Homeland, though he lost out to Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston.
