A new drama pilot from J.J. Abrams has reportedly been picked up to series by Fox.

Alcatraz will follow a team of FBI agents investigating the mysterious reappearance of a gang of Alcatraz prisoners who vanished 30 years ago.

In a recent post on Twitter, Dan Wright of Metro Van Films wrote: "JJ Abrams's Alcatraz green-lit for 12 episodes. Filming in Vancouver next month."

Jorge Garcia, Sarah Jones, Sam Neill and Santiago Cabrera have all signed up to appear in the Alcatraz pilot, which has been written by Elizabeth Sarnoff.

Fox has yet to officially confirm the 12-episode pick-up.
