Touch, which has been penned by Heroes creator Tim Kring, focuses on a father who discovers that his autistic, mute son can predict events before they happen.
TV Line says that Sutherland has now officially signed up to play the father. He was first linked to the project last week.
Production on the Touch pilot is expected to begin towards the end of May or the beginning of June as Sutherland is currently starring in the Broadway show That Championship Season.
Charles McDougall, who previously directed the pilots for Desperate Housewives and The Good Wife, is thought to be in talks to helm the project.
