Megan Hilty has revealed that she once considered quitting Smash.

Hilty told Emmy Magazine that she nearly panicked prior to shooting one of Smash's elaborate dance sequences early in the show's run.

"I called my manager and said, 'I'm not the right person for this. Save me the humiliation'," the actress recalled.

Hilty's Smash co-star Debra Messing meanwhile revealed that landing a role on the Broadway-inspired series was humorous because she'd once been passed over for a major stage role.

"[Dancing] was what I wanted for life. I was a good dancer, not a great dancer... I flapped my arms around. They said, 'OK, thank you'. I was released and my dreams of A Chorus Line were shattered," Messing quipped.

Smash was recently renewed by NBC for a second season, but the Peacock Network will bench the series until 2013.

NBC entertainment president Jennifer Salke has defended the scheduling decision, saying: "If it aired in the fall, it would have so many pre-emption.

"You could never really run more than three or four episodes straight. The midseason schedule will allow a clean run, which is important for a show like Smash, that's very serialised."

Smash regulars Jaime Cepero, Raza Jaffrey, Brian D'Arcy James and Will Chase have all been dropped from the series.
