The supernatural series focuses on a group of people who travel to the Amazon to search for a missing television explorer.
Foster has now landed a major recurring role as a cameraman in the show, TV Line reports.
His character Jed Boggs, who is described as adventurous, will go to great lengths to film good footage. The part could reportedly become a series regular role in the future.
Foster previously played Cappie in Greek and appeared as Gary in Parenthood. He has also recently starred in Melissa & Joey.
The River is expected to premiere on ABC in midseason.
