Fans have been invited to send in ideas for a new opening credits sequence, with the winning entry possibly being used in the finale episode of the current season.
The iconic animated comedy has included hundreds of different skits involving the Simpsons family during its 24 seasons on Fox.
Sequences have included clay models, a Monty Python foot, The Flintstones and a Game of Thrones spoof intro.
Fans must describe their idea in 100 words or less on the show's official website.
The rules of the competition state: "Your idea needs to be 2D animation; it must be 30 seconds or shorter; it can't have dialogue; it can't have music; it can't have brands or commercials; it must conform to broadcast standards; and it must use all five family members.
"Other than that, the only limit is your imagination."
The winning entry will most likely be broadcast in May 2013 in the US.
Graffiti artist Banksy designed a special couch gag opening sequence for the show in 2010.
