Wipeout returned to ABC with a lower audience than usual last night (Thursday), preliminary Nielsen overnight data reveals.

The gameshow's premiere drew 5.9m (1.9) at 9pm, 24% below last year's summer opener.

However, Wipeout wasn't helped by Duets, which aired before it with a series low of 4.2m (1.0).

Rookie Blue rounded off the night for ABC with a season low of 4.9m (1.1) in the 10pm hour.

NBC's Olympic Trials coverage took 6.2m (1.7) at 8pm, then the audience dropped for Saving Hope (3.3m/0.7) and Rock Centre (3.5m/0.8).

The CW's Breaking Pointe entertained 870k (0.3) at 8pm, while Fox garnered 2.3m (1.0) for Take Me Out and 2.9m (1.2) for The Choice.
