'Duets': Superstars' Choice - Live blog

By
The competition is getting down to the wire on Duets, and with only three contestants going through this week, it's anyone's guess as to whose dream will be coming to an end. Professional mentors Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Jennifer Nettles and Robin Thicke each want their contestant to come out on top, but unfortunately, only one can win.

Tonight, the amateurs will take on a song chosen by their superstar partners - will it be a triumph or a disaster? Stay with Digital Spy live from 8/7c to find out!

20:57Well, that's it for tonight! Lines are now open and it's anyone's (read: John's) game. Robin thinks that Jason brought the house down but that John sang the best. John Legend thinks that J Rome is the overall winner, while Jennifer felt like a 'stage mum" the entire night. Kelly, of course, wants Jason to win but also appreciates John. WHATEVER. John Glosson forever! Join us next week to find out who will become the winner!

20:55One more duet to go tonight! Jason is singing Bruno Mars' 'Runaway Baby'. Strike three, Jason. Your first strike was your duet choice song. Bruno Mars is the second and third in one, because he's that awful. Again, it sounds "okay", but there's nothing special about this. Sorry, Jason. In the words of my good friends *NSync, "Bye, Bye, Bye".

20:48No time for feedback, it's John up next with 'Bless the Broken Road'. He can do no wrong! We all love John Glosson! Okay, maybe I would buy his record. Or at least, like, stream it on Spotify or something. He's just good. The end.

20:47We're back to J Rome for his solo performance of 'Signed, Sealed, Delivered'. Like I said, give him his contract and let's get a move on. The song suits his style, he's on pitch, etc. It's not my thing, but I can see it'd be many people's thing, so fair enough.

20:40John Legend calls him "wonderful", praising his range and telling him that he sounded beautiful tonight and chose a song that showcased all his strengths. Robin calls him "Georgia Bocelli" (Glosson is from Georgia, duh), but points out that he was out of tune for one note. Way to be petty, Thicke. Talk to the hand. Kelly didn't even notice he was off-key because she thinks there's something "super special" about his voice - it's "hypnotic", even. Word, Kelly.

20:37I love John Glosson. I wouldn't buy his albums or go see him live, but I think he's so talented and sweet and earnest and adorable and I just want to give him a hug for being so precious. Jennifer has ditched the fedora for this performance. They're just SO GOOD together - from the very first time they sang together, it just worked. I love it. John Glosson to win! Jennifer Nettles for president!

Oh, sorry... getting ahead of myself.

20:36John Glosson is getting his turn, finally. His solo is Rascal Flatts' 'Bless the Broken Road', but the duet is one of my favourites - 'The Prayer' by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli. I know this gets performed a lot on shows like this, but whatever, I love it. I bought the Quest For Camelot soundtrack in 1998 just to own it! (Judgment-free zone, remember?)

20:30Jennifer loves that he's finding his niche as a "soul singer in a skinny little Filipino body" and is glad that he's finding himself, but John disagrees, saying it's not the best song for him and he wasn't as good as last week. Robin can see why teenage girls are going crazy for him, but he wishes he would have felt more emotion and saw "a little bit more naughtiness" in the performance.

20:26Next up, Jason's going to get his turn. For the duet, he and Kelly are doing "Me and Mrs Jones" by Billy Paul - Jason's pick. It's saved him before in the competition, and hopefully it'll save him this time around! To be honest, I'm shocked he's still here - he's a sweet kid, but I never saw much charisma in him and totally can't picture him as a "star". Aw, bless him.

The duet is pretty good - he sounds all right, but there's just... nothing there. The song is a weird choice, I think, and while Kelly kills it (she always does), I just don't feel anything. Shame, really.

20:19Robin thinks it's a great song and that while he thought it wouldn't be right for J Rome's voice, he made it his own and still sounded great singing it - a real testimony to his talent. John thinks that everything's right for his voice and that he has a great chemistry with Jennifer, too. Kelly is also a fan, saying she's "mad" cos he's "so good". It's one of her favourite songs, and while it's not that exciting, it was outside the box and worked perfectly.

20:17The duet is up first, and it's pretty good. Honestly, I'm a bit distracted by Jennifer's maroon velvet fedora. She's wearing it with no sense of irony and I love it! The performance itself is pretty good. Listen, J Rome could go out and be the next Trey Songz or whatever without any issues at all. Give him a contract and throw him in a tent at the Hackney Weekend - Trey Songz had a packed house there.

20:15J Rome is doing 'Signed, Sealed, Delivered' by Stevie Wonder for his solo, as it's his favourite song in the world. Alright, J Rome. Jennifer thinks it's going to be "super cool" and says that he was already "ready" when he came into the competition and just needed something to take him to the next level. For the duet, Jennifer has picked The Script's 'Breakeven'. The Script are corny as, but I do like that song a lot. And 'The Man That Can't Be Moved' - that song makes me cry. This is a judgment-free zone, okay?

20:09Bridget is then sent home - well, duh. Sorry, but no one can touch John Glosson, and I haven't even watched this show since week two. He's just untouchable. John (Legend, that is) comes up on stage to give some encouraging words about how fun it's been to work with her and how she was meant to be on the show, etc. Bridget looks, frankly, more annoyed than upset.

20:07It's time to reveal who's in the bottom two tonight, and turns out, it's Bridget Carrington and John Glosson. Whaaaat! J Rome is through, as is Jason Farol.

20:04I am mad that Kelly Clarkson is a blonde now, though. I loved her brown hair, and us brunette girls gotta stick together. (Love you, Kelly!)

20:03Is it just me, or have you really grown to love Jennifer Nettles even if you didn't know/care about her before this show? She's so great! And also, is it just me, or has Robin Thicke gotten even more ridiculous than ever? Anyway, the professionals (complete with Kelly Clarkson - can't forget her!) are performing the classic 'Get Ready'. Jennifer Nettles is dressed like a 1980s Carmen Sandiego, but I ain't even mad.

20:01It's the final performance night tonight, and each of the four finalists will be doing TWO songs tonight - a duet and a solo! Oh, snap! I'm not really sure who I want to win, but I don't have much time to think about it, because it's time for the opening number and there are acrobatic dancers flipping all over the stage and then John Legend comes out!
