Duets S01E08: 'Superstars' Choice'

© ABC

Well, it's been an exciting season on Duets, and tonight it all comes to a close as a winner is crowned. With only three singers left in the competition - John Glosson, J Rome and Jason Farol - it's anyone's guess who will take home the final prize (though our money is on Glosson).

Stick with Digital Spy live from 8/7c to find out who will be victorious and which singers will go home empty-handed.

20:58Will this show have another season? Was it just a weird summer filler? Who can say, but the journey was fun while it lasted!

20:58And the winner is... J Rome! Well, I think we all sort of saw that coming. Hopefully John gets a recording contract, as well (I can't imagine he won't). He's overjoyed and can't even speak, and Jennifer is also super proud. The show closes out with him singing his favourite song in the world - Stevie Wonder's 'Signed, Sealed, Delivered'. And that's a wrap!

20:56Well, it's time to reveal who gets the recording contract with Hollywood Records and the winning title. Come on, let's get to it!

20:53Results time! The amateur in third place is... Jason Farol. Well, that was right! Kelly says that he has grown and had the least experience of everyone, but should be proud of himself because he's made it to the finale, so it doesn't matter if he wins. Well, it kinda does, but okay.

Robin thinks that America got it right because John and J Rome have been the most consistent throughout the entire competition. Still, he can't pick a winner!

20:48J Rome is hitting some serious bum notes in that upper register - I wasn't looking at the screen, but I certainly did when I heard that sound coming out of it. Eek! None of the mentors are going to mention that, though, because why would they? It's the end of the competition.

John thinks it's great that he does something different and stretches himself every week, saying that there's nothing J Rome can't do. Robin agrees, saying it's been an amazing journey and loves what a "great human being" he is even off the stage. Kelly loves him and gushes that he makes her happy inside and she can't be any more impressed by him than she already is.

20:43One finalist left to sing, and it's J Rome, the American Trey Songz. Well, Trey Songz is American, but... well, that makes my whole analogy fall apart. Whatever. He and Jennifer are singing 'Rhythm of the Night' by DeBarge - strange choice, I think, but maybe not. J Rome is good and could totally be a star... I just don't want him to win. He might, though!

20:37Jason's highlight of the season has been singing with Kelly every week - he's a major fanboy, lest we forget. Anyway, Jennifer is glad to have been able to witness his journey and see him "blossom" on the stage, which John agrees with. He adds that Jason looks comfortable and like he's having a good time - plus, he and Kelly look like they're having a good time. Robin... says something about how his father once told him "if you're good at something, make sure they pay you for it". Fair enough, though not sure what that has to do with Jason.

20:35Next to sing is finalist Jason Farol with Kelly. They're singing 'Heartbreak Hotel' - I do love a bit of Elvis, I must admit. However, Jason just can't pull it off. Let's shoot straight here - he's a good kid, but he's not a superstar in his own right. If he auditioned for The X Factor, he'd either get let go, or thrown into a group with a few others who could maybe work together to create a full act but certainly not do it on their own. That's just the truth.

20:27That was brilliant. John Glosson to win! (Yes, I'm going to keep saying it. I'm Secret-ing, shut up!) John tells Quddus that it's "a whirlwind" and "amazing" and he can't put into words how much it means to him to have been part of this experience.

Kelly tells him that he has such a beautiful voice and again commends him and Jennifer for working so well together. Robin thinks he has both the voice and the spirit to be a star, then he goes on and tells his fellow mentors that he's "changed for the better" on the show and loved working with everyone. John was almost in tears and says it was "very special" to witness the chemistry and the talent.

Jennifer says that John has reminded her of family and community, adding that they became "fast friends" and that it was nice to realise how great it is to connect with people when people are so "spread apart" this day and age. I love her! I love John Glosson! Give them all the prizes!

20:23Aw, Jennifer and John are singing 'For Good' from Wicked. What a lovely song - and incidentally, Wicked is the first and only Broadway show I've ever been to (despite living in New York for over ten years). This song gets me a little choked up. Look at that - I DO have a heart!

20:19We need to see a little more from the finalists! After all, it is their night. John Glosson's journey is shown first - Jennifer Nettles had him picked as a champ from the first day, and he's really blossomed over the season. I really want him to win!

20:15More performances! Robin Thicke takes the stage with his former contestant Olivia Chisholm for a version of 'Fever'. In typical Robin style, he has try to make it a glorified seduction routine, but at least he's actually singing a song that's meant to be sexy, this time. Get that falsetto, Robin!

20:07Because it's a night to celebrate, Bridget Carrington is back to sing with her mentor John Legend. They're doing The Rolling Stones' 'Gimme Shelter' - nice choice!

20:03Before we get any results, however, it's time for the opening duet by the professionals. Jennifer Nettles and Kelly Clarkson are covering 'Would I Lie To You' by Eurythmics and it's actually pretty great. I said it last week and I'll say it again this week - Jennifer Nettles is great. (So is Kelly Clarkson, of course!)

20:01Here we go! It's the finale and while I honestly didn't expect to care about this show in the least, I have to admit - I'm rooting for John Glosson to win tonight. Will he? One way to find out - keep watching!
