The Carrie Diaries star Anna Sophia Robb has revealed that Sarah Jessica Parker has been very supportive of the Sex and the City prequel.

Robb will play the younger version of Parker's Sex and the City character Carrie Bradshaw in The CW's Carrie Diaries, which explores Bradshaw's teenage years.

Discussing the prequel series with USA Today, Robb revealed that Parker has been nothing but supportive of The Carrie Diaries.

"She sent me a really encouraging, very sweet letter that made me feel really good," the actress recalled.

She went on to say: "She was congratulating me and telling me how much the role of Carrie Bradshaw meant to her and how it changed her life, that she was so excited for me and knew it was in good hands. It was a huge compliment for me."

Robb went on to stress that The Carrie Diaries seeks to create its own identity away from Sex and the City, while also maintaining links to the HBO show.

"[The Carrie Diaries] is not trying to be like Sex and the City," the star explained. "We have similar flavors and similar characters, but this is very different.

"It's a different era and it's for a younger audience, but hopefully fans of Sex and the City will love it too."

Robb previously expressed admiration for Sex and the City, as well as crediting Parker with doing "such a beautiful job of embodying" Carrie Bradshaw.

The Carrie Diaries premieres Monday, January 14 at 8/7c on The CW.
