The network has picked up the Vampire Diaries creator's new show, which has the working title Mastermind, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Williamson's drama, which stars Kevin Bacon as a former FBI agent, is about a serial killer who has inspired other murderers.
James Purefoy played the serial killer in the Warner Bros. project.
Fox has also reportedly commissioned Mob Doctor, a medical drama featuring Jordana Spiro as Grace Delvin, a surgeon who moonlights as a 'mob doctor' for criminals after hours in order to save her debt-ridden brother.
The network is also believed to have ordered three comedies including the Dana Fox-penned Ned Fox Is My Manny, an untitled show written by and starring The Office actress Mindy Kaling and The Goodwin Games - a new project from the creators of How I Met Your Mother.
Fox will reveal its full 2012-13 season lineup at next week's upfronts.
