Patrick Duffy has revealed that he thought a proposed Dallas movie script was "atrocious".

The actor said that upon reading the big-screen treatment, he thought it suffered from poor writing and character development.

Duffy, who is reprising his role as Bobby Ewing in TNT's revival of the classic CBS drama, is quoted as saying in The Sun: "I saw the script - nobody knew how to write it."

A film version of Dallas was planned by 20th Century Fox in 2006 with John Travolta cast as JR Ewing and Jennifer Lopez as Sue Ellen.

Bend it Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha was attached to direct the movie, but the project ultimately never saw the light of day.

Dallas airs on TNT in the US and on Channel 5 in the UK.
