The Australian star will portray the popular DC Comics character on the new CW drama, which stars Stephen Amell (The Vampire Diaries, Hung) as the title character.
"I play Helena, but I'm also The Huntress, so I have to be able to hold my own," the actress told KSiteTV. "The duality of the role, it's challenging. I have to be able to kick butt and all of that, [but] I'm quite feminine in my normal every day [life].
"The fighting and all of that is new and interesting for me, but it's a good thing. I'm really enjoying it. I've kind of been thrust into it."
De Gouw also revealed that she "went back to the comics" to research her role as The Huntress.
"I think the comics is the best place to start," she said. "That's where it originated; that's what the fans want to see. That's what I wanted to go for."
Arrow also stars Katie Cassidy (Supernatural), Willa Holland (The OC), Paul Blackthorne (24) and Colin Salmon (Resident Evil).
The series debuts in the US on October 10 and will air on Sky1 in the UK.
