'Arrow' exec on Huntress: "She is the dark mirror version of Oliver"

By
Arrow's executive producer Andrew Kreisberg has described The Huntress as "the dark mirror version" of Oliver Queen.

The DC Comics anti-heroine will be pitted against Stephen Amell's vengeful archer in the CW drama's eighth episode 'Vendetta'.

"She is the dark mirror version of Oliver, and it was a nice contrast to him because he's [already] pretty extreme," Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly.

"He goes a lot further than not only his comic book version, but lots of [other] comic book characters - most have a code of draws the line against killing. Our [Oliver] is obviously past that.

"[So we wondered] what could we do if we brought the Huntress? Since we already have a character who goes to extremes, how much more extreme can we make her?"

Kreisberg suggested that both Oliver and his costumed nemesis are "damaged by their pasts".

"Oliver has taken the darkness inside with him and is doing something positive with it," he explained. "She's taken the darkness inside her and is seeking revenge and doesn't care who gets hurt in the process.

"[The episode raises] all of these interesting philosophical discussions: What is vengeance? What is justice? Where do you draw the line and how far is too far? And then the fact that she's hot and Oliver is into her makes it all the more complicated!"

Jessica de Gouw, who plays the Huntress, previously hinted that her character is "quite feminine" but can also "kick butt".

Arrow continues on Wednesday nights on The CW and airs on Sky1 every Monday at 8pm.
