Sheridan recently announced that she is quitting her role as Edie Britt on the ABC drama at the end of season five.
Delany, who plays Katherine Mayfair, has now praised Sheridan's work on the programme and admitted that the show could suffer without her.
Speaking to People magazine, Delany explained: "The Edie character - and Nicollette in particular - is such an iconic figure. She's a classic - a classic femme fatale."
She added: "I don't think there's a lot of women like that left anymore. So, I think it will be a void for a while."
Desperate Housewives returns to Channel 4 on Wednesday night at 10pm.
