The actress, who plays Gabrielle Solis in the ABC drama, was romantically involved with Metcalfe's gardener John in the first season of the show.
The actor recently signed on to reprise his role in two episodes of the new season.
Speaking to People, Longoria Parker said: "Working with Jesse again brought back some great memories.
"Jesse and I went through a lot together during that first year and those kind of experiences bond you for life."
Creator Marc Cherry added: "I've heard rumours of this bad boy behaviour of Jesse's but I've never seen it myself. The truth is, he was a perfect gentleman when he did our show in the beginning. I see a maturity now in terms of his persona and his skill, but he's still the same delightful Jesse."
