According to BuddyTV, the 47-year-old actress - Lynette Scavo on the ABC drama - called for the show to match the success of Friends and Frasier.
"Every hit programme has a life span - I don't know what this one will be," she confessed. "Friends went for ten years, Frasier lasted for eleven, but some shows go for three. I would like it if it goes on for ten years because it's a dream job."
Desperate Housewives continues Sundays at 9pm on ABC in the US and begins Wednesday, January 27 at 10pm on Channel 4 in the UK.
