The executive producer of Desperate Housewives has revealed that Dana Delany had doubts about leaving the show.

Delany, who played Katherine Mayfair, recently joined the pilot Body of Proof which has been picked up by ABC.

Desperate Housewives showrunner Bob Daily has now denied rumours that Delany was hoping to leave when she signed up for the pilot.

"Actually, ABC approached her," he told Zap2It. "She actually went back and forth as to whether she should move on. I think she was having just so much fun on the show, but ABC really wanted her to do this pilot. And listen, Dana's great. She should be the lead in her own series and she has been before - an Emmy-winning lead [in China Beach]."

Daily also revealed that Delany is welcome to return to the show.

"I know that Dana came into us and said, 'I'm not sure if I want to do this'," he said. "That was when [creator Marc Cherry] said to her, 'If it doesn't work out, you'll always have a place here. So don't let that cloud your decision'."
