According to New York magazine, the second episode of the series about a cable news show team fell to 1.7 million viewers, a 20% slip from its debut episode.
In the under-50 demographic, the programme lost out to airings of Bravo's The Real Housewives of New Jersey and Lifetime's Army Wives.
Despite the dip in viewership, HBO has already renewed The Newsroom for a second season.
