TV Line reports that the actress will play the new wife of Barney's father Jerry (John Lithgow).
The episode will conclude a current story arc on the CBS sitcom that has seen the womanising Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) searching for his long-lost father.
Travis recently played a recurring role on Desperate Housewives and has also featured in episodes of Numb3rs and Medium. Her film credits include 2005's The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants and 1993's So I Married an Axe Murderer.
It was recently confirmed that General Hospital star Nazanin Boniadi will appear in multiple episodes of How I Met Your Mother as Nora, a new love interest for Barney.
The show airs on Mondays at 8/7c on CBS.
