How I Met Your Mother creator Carter Bays has claimed that the current season will have a "satisfying ending".

The showrunner promised that the CBS series will conclude on a pleasing note, despite the current frostiness between Ted (Josh Radnor) and Robin (Cobie Smulders) following the former's declaration of love.

"We went for the reality of those situations," he told Entertainment Weekly. "I feel like on this show we've gone as far as we can go where it's just the gang hanging out at the bar week in and week out, with these big things happening to them that don't really change things.

"Ted and Robin have now reached the point where it's not as simple as hanging out at the bar and forgetting the fact that Ted's in love with her, and she's not in love with him. It's complicated...[But] I feel like [there's] a satisfying ending - the way it all wraps up as the season comes to a close."

Bays also revealed that Robin will have "some excitement in her life coming up, especially [in] next week's episode".

He previously stated that the love triangle between Robin, Ted and Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) will linger as the show continues.

How I Met Your Mother airs in the US Mondays at 8/7c on CBS. UK viewers can catch the latest season Thursdays at 9pm on E4.
