Exclusive: 'Big Bang Theory' stars on Penny, Leonard future: 'They need to mature'

By and Tom Mansell
The Big Bang Theory stars Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco have spoken about the future of Leonard and Penny's romance.

Both stars told Digital Spy that they believe their characters are destined to be together.

"I do feel that way," Cuoco admitted. "I feel that down the line I'd love to see them together - maybe not right now, but down the line."

Galecki agreed: "They still have a lot of maturing to do, but at some point I think they'll meet on an even playing field."

Scientist Leonard and waitress Penny are currently dating on the hit sitcom, but their relationship hit a setback when she rejected his marriage proposal.

"Timing is not Leonard's strong suit, as evidenced by his proposal in the bedroom," laughed Galecki. "But [going by] her reaction - I think she has some emotional maturing to do."

Cuoco added that she wants Penny to plan for her future and "really make decisions" in the show's upcoming sixth run.

"She's very tough, but I think she can be very vulnerable as well," said the 26-year-old actress. "I'm hoping we're going to see that with her and Leonard in the upcoming year - what she really wants."

The Big Bang Theory returns to CBS on Thursday, September 27. In the UK, the series airs on Channel 4 and E4.
