'The Big Bang Theory' adds 'Southland' star Regina King

Regina King has signed up for a role on The Big Bang Theory.

The Southland star will play a guest role in a January episode of the sitcom, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

King will play the university's head of human resources who interrogates Sheldon (Jim Parsons) when he shares an awkward encounter with his sexy assistant Alex (Margo Harshman).

The 41-year-old actress currently stars in TNT's cop drama Southland and also appeared in the sixth season of 24. Her film credits include 2004's Ray, 1998's Enemy of the State and the same year's How Stella Got Her Groove Back.

Other stars to have joined The Big Bang Theory in this sixth season include Meagen Fay (Roseanne), LeVar Burton (Star Trek) and Ryan Cartwright (Bones).

The series continues on Thursdays at 8/7c on CBS and airs on Channel 4 and E4 in the UK.
