'The Avengers/Marvel Avengers Assemble' poster: Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson
The Avengers star Clark Gregg has admitted that he would be interested in the forthcoming TV spinoff.

S.H.I.E.L.D. - which focuses on the Marvel film's elite spy organisation - is being developed for ABC by Joss Whedon.

Gregg told Movies.com he was disappointed that his Avengers character - S.H.I.E.L.D. operative Phil Coulson - was killed off in the blockbuster movie.

"You know what, [when I heard about the spinoff series] that was the moment when I went, 'Great, they're doing the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show and I'm on a slab!'" he joked.

He continued: "I don't know if we'll see Agent Coulson again, but I certainly do his voice in their animated series, The Ultimate Spider-Man, and you never know, there may be a flashback or something sometime."

Joss Whedon recently hinted that he is developing "some really dope notions" for the S.H.I.E.L.D. series, which he will co-write with brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen.
