Foley joined the series earlier this season as Henry, a seriously ill patient who married Teddy (Kim Raver) so that he could use her insurance.
However, rumours have suggested that Teddy's ex-boyfriend Andrew Perkins will propose to her in an upcoming episode.
Meanwhile, Foley has signed up to star in a new CBS pilot which could be picked up for next season.
Rhimes has now told TV Line that she enjoys working with Foley but does not know if he will have a role in the future.
"I love him and would keep him forever if I could," she said. "But on our show, if you're not a doctor there's not a lot for you to do."
Rhimes also recently revealed that she is not sure whether Rachael Taylor will return next season.
