Isaiah Washington has revealed that he tried to resign from Grey's Anatomy on two separate occasions.
The actor claimed that he attempted to step down for the good of the show, following the controversy caused by the anti-gay slur he used when referring to co-star T.R. Knight during an on-set row. Washington then repeated the slur when talking to reporters at the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year.
ABC executives eventually decided to drop Washington from the programme last month.
"I expected something," Washington told CNN's Larry King. "I didn't know that [a firing] would happen, because I resigned. I tried to resign twice."
He added: "I am not homophobic, no way, shape and form. I made a huge error in judgement."
