Isaiah Washington has claimed that Grey's Anatomy producers did not give him a second chance because of his skin colour.

ABC announced that Washington had been dropped from the show earlier this month, following the controversy caused by the anti-gay slur he used when referring to co-star T.R. Knight in October 2006.

Washington has now complained that while actor Robert Downey Jr. was forgiven following reports of drug use, and Arnold Schwarzenneger after sexual misconduct allegations, African-American people do not receive the same treatment.

"I apologised and showed my remorse for what I said and for the pain I caused anyone," Washington told Newsweek magazine.

"If a black man can't get forgiveness in this country, when so many other people like Robert Downey Jr. and the governor of California get second and third chances... I think that says a lot about race and this country where we stand."
