Former Grey's Anatomy actor Isaiah Washington has lodged complaints after his picture featured in a "newspaper" on the show.
The actor played Dr Preston Burke until 2007, when he left after an incident in which he referred to fellow castmember TR Knight using a homophobic slur.
The photo of his character appeared in the May 9 episode of the medical drama alongside a newspaper article about Burke receiving a surgeon's award.
Peter Nelson, Washington's lawyer, has lodged complaints with the Screen Actors Guild and ABC, which produces the series. He said he was looking for a financial settlement.
Nelson said: "They have the rights of the character to advance the story, but not the image."
