Note: The light summary of this article provides only gentle teasers as to what happens in this episode, and is suitable for reading before viewing. The full summary serves as a more detailed recap of the episode.
Light Summary: With proof that his escape plan is working, Michael gets suited up to overcome the vertical limits of his last obstacle. Back in PI, as the escape attempt draws near, the group tries to reduce their number by one and targets T-Bag, who has some insurance in his pocket. Outside the prison walls, LJ slips away to attend his mother's funeral, which is also attended by her murderer. Veronica gets a call from an unlikely source who sheds light on the night of Terrence Steadman's assassination.
Full Summary: Michael is making good progress with his plan, but he’s about to hit some pretty major snags. He’s realised that there won’t be enough time for the infirmary window to be removed and all the would-be escapees to get out, and it’s become clear that someone is going to have to stay behind. Unfortunately for Michael, this bad news is overheard by an already testy C-Note, who relays the information to the rest of the group.
The obvious candidate for ejection is T-Bag, but, expecting a potential ‘situation’ such as this, he’s already got himself an ‘insurance policy’. If his man on the outside doesn’t hear from him five minutes before and 20 minutes after the scheduled breakout time, he’ll call the Warden and blow the whistle. “So if you all got ideas about getting rid of me,” leers T-Bag, “I suggest you make other plans.” C-Note takes this advice on board, and immediately sets about trying to make Sucre paranoid. Michael doesn’t need anyone, he explains, except Abruzzi for his plane and Westmoreland for his money. Would Sucre be tempted to use what Michael has already told him to stage a breakaway break-out?
Sucre begins to give C-Note’s offer more thought when his ex-girlfriend Maricruz announces that she’s pregnant with his baby, but is considering marrying his cousin Hector. Even more desperate to get out of Fox River, Sucre begins to believe C-Note’s story that Michael is just using him. So, when Michael asks his cellmate to be his lookout again, Sucre asks why he’s being kept out of the loop. “Why would you want to be responsible for potentially dangerous information?” replies Michael. “The less you know, the better. It’s for your own good.” Is C-Note right?
The rising tension within the group isn’t Michael’s only problem. He has worked out the access route to the infirmary, but was temporarily scuppered by a seemingly insurmountable 20-foot vertical drain. To overcome this, he has nipped out of sight on PI and turned on the water to fill the huge drain shaft. Now he needs to test the route, and disappears down the pipe to swim to the surface of the waterfilled shaft. He can now remove the grate at the top – and climbs out into a storage building... right beneath the infirmary. Delighted that the route is now set, Michael makes his way back to the guards’ break room where the rest of the group have been digging the access hole into the pipe. But when he gets there, he finds the hole covered up. There’s a big problem up above...
Abruzzi, meanwhile, has decided to deal with the T-Bag problem himself. After finding out the identity of the villain’s ‘insurance policy’, he arranges for him to be locked up for a few days so he can’t talk, closely followed by the dispatching of T-Bag himself. Unfortunately, Abruzzi’s man on the outside has bungled the operation and managed to shoot dead both the insurance policy and the man’s young son. Abruzzi becomes plagued with guilt, and his planned execution of T-Bag ends in the Mob boss deciding to grant the scumbag another chance – if he agrees to give up his place on the escape. T-Bag whimpers that he’ll do it, anything just to stay alive... but can he be trusted?
Meanwhile, Veronica has managed to get Nick to a hospital after he was shot by the Vice President’s super-evil FBI heavy. LJ spots a newspaper with the announcement of his mother’s funeral, and takes off. But Agent Kellerman has instructed Hale to stake out the graveside and follow LJ back to the lawyers . Is LJ going to lead Hale right to them?
