After witnessing a prisoner beaten to death in an organised fight, Mahone suggests to Schofield that they form an alliance but this is quickly denied. They soon meet the inmate who effectively runs the prison from a position of luxury – Luchero. They are told that prisoners resolve their conflict by fighting to the death. Soon, T-Bag tries to suck up to Luchero and become part of his posse.
Bellick is malnourished and treated badly within Sona, even being made to perform such menial tasks likes cleaning out the filthy toilet facilities in a desperate bid to win food and water. While down in the sewers, a mysterious convict called Whistler contacts him and asks him to place messages in the pockets of the next two prisoners to fight in return for rat meat.
In a blatant set up, Schofield is accused by another prisoner of stealing his belongings and a fight to the death is organised. Bellick discreetly places the handwritten messages inside both of the combatants' pockets. Using advice given by Mahone, Schofield targets his opponent's knees and gains an early advantage, but is unwilling to end his life. When the prisoner gets hold of a knife, Mahone intervenes and kills him by snapping his neck. The former cop explains to an angry Luchero that Schofield's opponent broke the rules first by trying to use the weapon.
The deceased's body is soon dumped outside the prison, along with two other bodies. A young woman turns up and goes through their pockets, before finding the note in one of the pockets.
Burrows has a false alarm when a recovered body turns out not be Sara Tancredi. He is then contacted by his son LJ who tells him to meet up with him at a restaurant, but when he does is approached by a young female agent who works for the shady Company. The organisation have kidnapped both Sara and LJ and won't release them unless Schofield complies with their demands – by breaking out Whistler from Sona.
