'Prison Break' S04E12: 'Selfless'

It's been a while since there was a major twist on the show, and the revelation about Self's nature was genuinely jaw-dropping. Much kudos to Michael Rappaport for building up a character that appeared to be amiable, yet capable of turning dark suddenly without seeming a betrayal of his true Self.
The fast-paced opening to the episode was admirably crowdpleasing, with Scofield outwitting The General and unleashing one of his trademark smirks. Isn't he supposed to be dying though? There's been plenty of fan speculation about the involvement of Scofield's parents in Company affairs, and The General expertly teases out their possible past involvement. His sly bargaining attempts also ramp up the tension as he offers individual treats to certain members of Scofield's mob. Leon Russom's compelling portrayal as the so-called Pad Man deserves many plaudits.
Lincoln Burrows's decision to bury the hatchet with the serially underused Mahone is rather touching and understated. "We're settled," mutters the Beefcake to the man who shot dead his father. After all the recent grieving over the previously detested Brad Bellick, this moment helps to reinforce the developing bond between the testosterone-fuelled fugitives.
The new mission - of revenge on Don Self - is teeming full of promise. Just how will Self incorporate T-Bag into his wicked plans? What does this mean for the freedom that Scofield's Dirty Dozen had fought so hard to win? Prison Break has us thinking again, so let's hope the answers are as interesting as the questions.
