S03E11: 'Under & Out'
Surprise, surprise. There's yet another hitch as far as the breakout plan is concerned, this time in the shape of rainfall - presumably from a thundercloud formed by Scofield's evaporated oceans of sweat. Fortunately, this episode has enough fun and intrigue to avoid being drowned in the meandering plotlines that have dogged the majority of the third season. Crucially, the tense cliffhanger showed that the action is really hotting up now.

The duplicitous dealings of T-Bag and Lechero, ensuring that they leave the tunnel first, were a joy to behold and an exposition of their selfish natures that have been recently suppressed through the teamwork required. Alas, there's never been much doubt about Susan's nature. She is one leopard whose spots are firmly on show. She has been deliciously evil throughout, but her torturing of Sofia and threats to Sucre made for particularly compulsive viewing.

Occasional injections of humour were nicely thrown into the mix to lighten the tone at crucial stages. Brad Bellick's dreams of a book deal and Mahone telling T-Bag that he was spawned by a family of inbreds were both highlights.

The episode ends with Sucre taking out the patrol jeeps and Burrows demolishing an electricity pole courtesy of a large bus. There's a real tension in the air that the long-awaited breakout is imminent, and this translates into a firm desire to tune in to the next episode. This feeling has been distinctly lacking recently, so it's great to have back.
