S04E05: 'The Road Less Travelled'
Compared to the recent rip-roaring episodes of Battlestar Galactica, this episode is certainly sedate and underwhelming.

It's very much a case of regrouping, taking stock and allowing the plot to nicely brew, with the focus shifting to Starbuck's Demetrius. The sudden reappearance of Cylon Leoben throws an intriguing spanner into the works as he vies with Anders for Starbuck's attention. But can he sense that Anders is one of his own kind? Hark back to the earlier scene in this season when a Centurion certainly recognised the true nature of Starbuck's husband while fighting in space.

The mental meltdown of Tyrol is compelling and his confrontation with religious nutcase Baltar is superb. Aaron Douglas really excels at playing the brooding widower with a dark secret, and reminds us all of the humanity we associated with Tyrol when he unexpectedly extends his hand to Baltar at the end of the episode.

Overall, there's a definite 'calm before the storm' feeling as not a great deal actually happens in the episode. But the prospect of a renegade Cylon alliance with the Galactica fleet is terrifically exciting.

I hate the Leoben character. We have this very definate idea of Starbuck's character and then she just turns into something else when that cylon model is about. It doesn't ring true. If it had just been the cylon and starbuck back on New Caprica then it might make sense, but what he did with the little girl should make her completely against him. I hope they get this strand of the story over and done with quickly.
