In the corridor, Brittany is decorating her locker. She tells Artie that she left her stocking up over the holidays last year and a family of mice started living in it. "Their Christmas gift to each other was rabies," she adds. She asks Artie what he has asked Santa for and he is shocked. "The roads to the North Pole are getting treacherous," she tells him. "Write your letter to Santa really fast and get it in the mail today. And remember, even the smallest envelope is heavy for an elf." Artie is surprised that Brittany still believes in Santa.
Later, the glee club start decorating a Christmas tree and the choir room while singing 'The Most Wonderful Day Of The Year'. However, when Will arrives he is unhappy that the club effectively stole the tree, ornaments and presents. Mercedes explains that the tree is a "mascot" to glee club because although they won sectionals twice, everyone still thinks they "suck". Will refuses to let them throw themselves a "pity party" and points out that Christmas is a time for being grateful. He announces that he wants them to help the McKinney-Vento Homeless Children And Youth Programme by carolling in the classrooms. Most of the glee club worry about the idea but Finn tells them that Christmas is a time for miracles. "This year glee club's going full Santa," Will grins.
The glee club take Brittany to a Santa's Grotto. Quinn announces that she doesn't want to sit on Santa's lap because it's always "really warm" and "creepy". However, Artie explains that they all have to so that Brittany thinks they all still believe in Santa. Mercedes is the first to go and sit on Santa's lap, followed by all the other glee club members. Eventually, Brittany gets up and explains that there is only one thing she wants for Christmas. She points out Artie and explains: "I want him to be able to walk. You can do that, can't you Santa?" Santa looks over at Artie, who vigorously signals "no", but he tells Brittany: "Sure, I'm on it." Artie looks worried and tells the others: "Now we're screwed."
Finn arrives at the auditorium to meet Rachel. She has set up fake snow and artificial Christmas trees. She asks if he likes her winter wonderland but he replies: "I don't like artificial Christmas trees. I like real ones. They smell amazing. That's kind of the whole point." Rachel quickly moves on and explains that although she doesn't normally exchange Christmas gifts because she is Jewish, she got a present for Finn because she knows what the holiday means to him. She hands over a gift and Finn discovers a note inside, reading: "The bearer of this note is entitled to one song of Rachel Berry's choosing sung to him or her with love." Rachel prepares to perform but he tells her not to. She points out that not letting her apologise isn't fair but he replies: "I know Christmas is supposed to be about forgiveness but I'm not ready to forgive you, so stop trying to make me." He walks off and one of the band members asks if they should leave too. Rachel replies that "the show must go on" and performs 'Merry Christmas Darling'.
At Dalton, Blaine finds Kurt, who is studying in the library. He explains that he is going to perform 'Baby, It's Cold Outside' at an upcoming event and asks Kurt to rehearse with him. Kurt points out that it's not fair that they can't sing it together at the event because they are both men, but agrees to help. The pair perform the song and afterwards Kurt smiles that Blaine is ready. "For the record, you are much better than that girl is going to be," Blaine replies. When he leaves, Will appears. Kurt is thrilled to see him and gives him a hug. Will asks if Blaine is someone "special", but Kurt replies: "He's just a friend. On the upside, I am in love with him and he's actually gay. I call that progress." He asks what Will is doing there and Will admits that he needs some help thinking of a Secret Santa present for Sue. Earlier, he came up with a list of present ideas which consisted of "dog robot" and "a soul". Kurt explains that he has the perfect idea.
Later, Sue is walking down the hall and stops Lauren, who is wearing a Santa hat. She explains that it is offensive because Lauren hasn't given her any gifts. Lauren hands over the hat, but Sue is interrupted by Becky announcing that they have a problem. When she arrives at her office, Sue discovers Will and Beiste taking away all the Secret Santa gifts. She immediately tells Becky to get the tear gas from her glove box and call Gloria Allred. Will explains that they are going to donate the gifts to homeless children and adds that because Sue misrepresented herself, they have a legal right to take back the gifts. "Ho, ho, ho," he grins as he walks past. "You know what you are, Sue? You're a Grinch."
Meanwhile, some of the male glee club members go to Coach Beiste to ask her to dress up as Santa for Brittany. Beiste is initially offended that they think she has the right body type for Santa but Artie begs her to tell Brittany that Santa can't make Artie walk. "She asked for an impossible gift, me walking again," he says. "If Christmas morning comes around and I'm not dancing in glee club rehearsals with no personal explanation, she'll lose faith in Santa." Sam suggests that Beiste tell Brittany that the elves are working on it but it will take a few years. Artie adds that he has spoken to Brittany's parents and they have agreed to let Beiste break in. Beiste agrees to go along with the plan.
That night, Becky dresses up as the "rein-dog" from The Grinch, while Sue paints her face green and dresses in a Santa costume to become the Grinch herself. She explains to Becky that they are dressing up so that if anyone sees them they will have plausible deniability. The pair head to the choir room, where Sue sings 'You're A Mean One Mr Grinch', changing "Mr Grinch" to "Sue the Grinch". As she performs, she smashes ornaments, takes candy canes, turns off the lights, cuts down the stockings, chops up the Christmas tree and shreds the Christmas songs sheet music. Suddenly, Brittany appears with a present for the homeless children. She believes that Sue is Santa and asks what she is doing. Sue claims that one of the lights on the tree isn't working and she's going to take it to her workshop to fix it. Brittany accepts the explanation and leaves.
The next day, Will walks into the choir room whistling but is shocked when he sees the devastation left by Sue. Mercedes explains that the vandal did everything and Rachel suggests that it shows everyone in the school hates them. Will immediately assumes that Sue was responsible but Brittany announces that it was Santa. Will asks if she is sure Santa was a boy and she insists that everyone knows Santa is male. Rachel whispers that it could have been one of the boys on the football team and Will murmurs: "I guess it wasn't Sue." Finn points out that much worse things have happened to people and he doesn't want this to get them down. Will agrees and announces that they should start cleaning up. Rachel heads over to Finn and points out that as leaders of the glee club they need to fix this. "We need to put everything that's happened behind us and save Christmas for glee club," she says. "I want to make this right." The pair go to buy a new Christmas tree but Finn claims that Rachel smells funny. She admits that she brought a pine air freshener because she knows he likes the smell. She gets close to him, suggesting that it is "cuddle weather", but Finn tells her that it is "unseasonably warm" for the time of year. Rachel points out that her favourite Christmas song, 'Last Christmas', is playing, but Finn simply suggests that they split up to look at the trees. Rachel begins singing 'Last Christmas' as she walks around and Finn joins in. They meet up at the end of the song and Rachel says: "Last year, for Christmas I asked Santa to give me you." She kisses him, but Finn pulls away and tells her: "It's not last year anymore." Rachel tells him that he should forgive her because it's Christmas but he replies: "I can't. This is wrong. I shouldn't have brought you here. You messed me up, Rachel. Can't you see how screwed up I am about this? I've had two girlfriends and both of them have cheated on me. Maybe you can ask Santa again for me next year but I'm officially breaking up with you." He walks off.
Back at glee club, the male members decide to donate their watches and the girls resolve to cut off their hair to raise money for the homeless charity. However, Will arrives just as the girls raise their scissors and tells them to stop. He announces that there are other ways to raise money for charity at Christmas. He explains that the magic of Christmas slowly fades as you get older and you would do anything to get it back. Finn asks what they should do, and Will replies that they will find some people who really need Christmas spirit and sing for them.
That night, Brittany tucks in her dolls but hears a noise. She heads downstairs and discovers Beiste dressed as Santa. She claims that she is doing a dry run to make sure everything goes well on Christmas Eve. She invites Brittany to sit with her and asks if there is anything she wants other than Artie being able to work. "Santa's tried his best but that one's a little hard," she says. Brittany points out that Santa is magic, but Beiste replies: "Sometimes what Santa wants to give a good little girl like you is patience, because believe it or not there are some things he can't manage. You know, there was a girl a little younger than you who was a little husky. She was always asking Santa for the same thing, to make her look like the other girls. She wasn't asking to be pretty or anything, she just didn't want to stick out so much. Santa just couldn't do it, so instead Santa gave her patience and later on the girl was glad Santa didn't give her what she had asked for. She put being husky to good use." Brittany asks if "Santa" is talking about Rikki Lake. Beiste adds: "The point is, I don't think I'm going to be able to give you what you're asking for even though I'd like to." Brittany begins to protest but Beiste tells her: "Sorry pumpkin. It's just not going to happen." She leaves and Brittany asks why she is not going up the chimney, but Beiste explains that Santa doesn't do that on dry runs.
The next day, Artie discovers Brittany taking down the Christmas decorations in her locker. She explains that she has lost her Christmas spirit, adding: "I used to believe that Santa could do anything. If Santa isn't magical, I don't know if I want to believe any more. It isn't fair you can't walk, Artie. I feel so terrible." Artie insists that he is fine. Will arrives and tells them to join him in the teachers' lounge, but Artie admits that Brittany isn't feeling too good and explains that he is going to take her home. Will agrees that it is a good idea.
Finn introduces the glee club to the teachers and explains that they are trying to raise money for children who have a lot less than them. "I know some of us have had a hard Christmas, but no matter how tough things can get, there isn't anything that more Santa and a couple more jingle bells can't cure," he says. Meanwhile, Sue is in her office staring at all the presents she reclaimed. She admits that the real joy of Christmas was "breaking the collective heart of the glee club". Suddenly, Becky hears something. The glee club are singing 'Welcome Christmas' as the teachers smile and donate money. Becky and Sue stand in the doorway watching and Becky says: "Christmas came anyway, coach, and it's beautiful." Sue replies: "It is."
After the performance, Puck reveals that they raised $210. Rachel approaches Will and explains that she knows he will be alone. She invites him over to spend Christmas Eve with her, but he explains that there is "nothing wrong with being alone". The glee club enter the choir room but stop, shocked, when they see Artie and Brittany. Artie is managing to walk with the aid of a machine called the "ReWalk". "Some guy in Israel invented it," Artie reveals. "I can't use it all the time but check me out!" Brittany explains that it was sitting under the Christmas tree when they got home and Artie insists that he didn't buy it. He explains that he thought Brittany's father had bought it, but he has no clue where it came from either. "No-one we know bought it for you then?" asks Rachel, but Brittany says it was Santa. Quinn announces that it is a "real Christmas miracle". As the glee club crowd round Artie, Beiste watches from a distance and smiles.
